Specialty Test Kits

Our Specialty Kits typically focus on measuring one type of chemical and are useful when you only need to test one special factor like hydrogen peroxide or phosphates.

Color-Matching Kits

Our specialty color-matching test kits and drop-count titrations give straightforward answers. They are available with 3/4 or 2 ounce reagents.

Ideal Hardness Levels

The ideal calcium hardness in pools should be between 200-400 ppm and spas 150-250 ppm. If your pool falls below 150 ppm, you should adjust your hardness level.

Description

This is a Pentair Rainbow #1200 Specialty Test Kit for Total Water Hardness using a drop test and visual method. Testing parameter indicates total hardness in PPM or grains. The reagents in this kit are 1/2 and 1 ounce. This kit comes in a compact box with instructions.

Calcium hardness is a necessary component in pool water because it helps prevent leaching out of certain substances in pool equipment. It works in conjunction with alkalinity and pH. You would balance alkalinity, pH, then calcium hardness in your pool, in that order. That is because adjusting alkalinity often affects pH. Adjusting both alkalinity and pH often affects your calcium hardness.

Product Features

  • Tests for Water Hardness
  • Reagents are 1/2 and 1 ounce
  • Reagents: Solution No. 6 and Solution No. 7

Instructions for Total Water Hardness Specialty Test

1. Fill plastic vial to bottom line with water sample from pool or spa.

2. Add 2 drops of solution #6 to water sample, swirl to mix.

3. Carefully add solution #7 one drop at a time. Swirl vial between drops to mix, counting the number of drops it takes the red color to change to pure blue.

4. Each drop of solution #7 that it takes to turn the red color to blue equals 50 ppm of hardness.

Follow product instructions included with the kit.
